Gurudwaras in Jammu and Kashmir

Many holy Sikh Gurus had visited the state which explains the reason of having many gurudwaras. Moreover Sikhs from nearby states Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh settled in Jammu & Kashmir for business purposes. Now every major district has at least one Gurudwara, if not more!

The only Gurudwara with a 3 feet statue of Guru Nanak
Mesmerising, spellbinding and cool statue of Guru Nanak is carved off white marble. The calm eyes surprise everyone. Very few know of its existence. This is the most preferred tourist spot amongst all faiths in Jammu. One of the most beautiful and elegant Gurudwaras, located in the busy market of Mubarak Mandi.

Gurudwara on Chenab River
Gurudwara Tapo Asthan Sant Baba Sunder Singh Ji Alibegh in Srinagar. Hundreds of Sikhs from all over the country visit here to meditate and try connecting themselves with their Guru!

Gurudwara Sant Mela Singh Dastkari Ashram
It was constructed for the sole purpose of spreading the Sikh religion at Jammu. Young children are trained on weapons, martial arts, kirtan etc. Downtrodden families and orphans are given free education and food here. The most notable fact is these very children who received training here are today renowned as Kirtani Jathas or Granthis.

Gurudwara Chhevin Patshahi
Also known as Thara Sahib, at Singhpura village. This was constructed in memory of the occasion when the Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind Singh visited the village.

Gurudwara Mattan Sahib
This was constructed in memory of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak, who in 1516 resided here in Mattan. Once a Brahmin named Pandit Brahmdas visited the Guru and boasted about his knowledge. Hearing this, the Guru recited a simple poem to him, telling that apart from the truth of the Gods’ name, all other knowledge was not permanent. Realizing his mistake, the Brahmin converted to Sikhism and constructed this Gurudwara.
