Rizong Monastery, also known as Yuma Changchubling, is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery of Yellow Hat (Gelugpa) sect. it is situated at the top of a rocky hill on the north bank of the Indus, to the west of Alchi gompa and Lamayuru. This monastery was established by Lama Tsulim Nima in the year 1831. It is remarkably known for it’s extremely strict and rules and regulation and often called as ‘The Paradise for meditation. Rizong Gompa is home to approximately 40 monks of Gelugpa order. There is a small cave the in vicinity of the monastery and it is believed that Guru Pdmasambhava mediated in this cave many years ago. At just 2 km away from the monastery, there is a nunnery named ‘Jelichun Nunnery’ or Chulichan, inhabited by 20 nuns.
