Zanaskar River

The Zanskar River is a north flowing tributary of the Indus River in Jammu and Kashmir. Zanskar River has two main branches, one is Doda with main source near Pansi-La Pass and other branch is formed by Kargyag River (source near Shingo La) and Tsarap River (source near Baralacha La). The river meanders north –westwards through dramatic gorge of Zanskar and finally meets the Indus River near Nimmu of Ladakh region.

Zanskar River offer immense opportunities of expedition to the adventure lovers. In summer season, tourists can embark on river rafting trips especially in the stretches between Chilling to Nimmu. Winter brings a unique and thrilling experience of walking along the frozen river of Zanskar, which is often called as ‘Chadar Trek’. Chadar Trek has gained global recognition and every year, numerous numbers of international hikers visit the valley to experience the trek on the ice sheet of Zanskar River.
