About Srinagar

Featuring the serene Dal Lake and the pristine snow-clad mountains of the Himalayas, Srinagar has been rightly dubbed "Venice of the east". Located on the bank of Jhelum River, the city is famous as the summer capital of India, and offers tourist delights like the Mughal Gardens, lakes, houseboats and handicrafts. Nestled among the peaks of Pir Panjal ranges, the city' s many beautiful lakes are known for houseboats and leisure-rides in shikaras. Typical ancient wooden mosques and religious sites are sightseeing among the other incentives for tourists. Although tourist turnout has not been healthy in the past few years, the prolonged peace in the Valley has once more started charming people from both India and abroad in large numbers. The year 2012 saw a record-breaking jump in tourist activity as the natural paradise was rediscovered by many.
