The dances will be performed by the school kids, locals and neighbourhood showcasing the traditional costumes, the view of which with snow covered mountains in the backdrop is breath taking. The festival will commence with introduction to different cultural and traditional sects inhabiting together, and will further gear up to musical concerts, dance nights, light and sound shows, and many more things. Ladakh in its second year of organizing an International Film Festival has brought some of the fine films with it. Almost 130 countries across the globe have sent their entries into this festival making it one of the few largest International Film Festivals in India. This festival is a mix pot of different genres and different art forms selected from across the globe. LIFF 2013 in association with Children’s Film Society has kept an entirely different section for children films ministered by Amole Gupte. The festival will have some of the very famous names under the Film Industry from across the globe as Jury which will be guided by the National Film Award winning Film Maker, Aparna Sen. On September 13, 2013 LIFF will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah.  The festival will be held in the backdrop of Ladakh’s picturesque view from September 13-15, 2013.

Kashmir Gets High on Golf Tourism

Kashmir has recently become one of the favorite tourist spots in India for Golf Lovers. Kashmir, with the kind of weather and the scenic beauty it has, is a perfect location for a sport like Golf. Government of Kashmir has decided to come up with a ‘Golf Development Authority’ to enhance the Golfing experience and promote Kashmir through the eyes of Golfers. Kashmir has 5 major Golf Courses that are one of the best amongst India and amongst top 10 in Asia.

The government of Kashmir came up with the idea of a ‘public Golf Course’, Royal Springs Golf Course in Srinagar, which invites anyone and everyone to have the feel of Golfing in it even without any membership. They got one of the best American Golfer, Robert Trent Jones Jr., to design it in a way that makes this today as one of the famous tourist destinations in Kashmir. The other two unique in its own Golf course are the Pahalgam Golf Course, Pahalgam that is one of the few hill station Golf Courses in India, and the other being the Gulmarg Golf Course, Gulmarg Town that is built the highest altitude and offers the longest Golf Hole in India. Sanasar Golf Course, Sanasar in Jammu is another place of amalgamation of sporting spirit with picturesque beauty.

Kashmir Government is also intensely focusing on not only making Golf Clubs just as another sports club in the State, but is conscious to promote tourism through it. In the lieu of that, it hosts major Golf Tournaments every now and then, thereby spreading its networks across globe. With five extremely beautiful Golf Clubs, Kashmir is not far away from being the State to be known with its sporting spirit and culture, mainly Golf. Kashmir is now pushing this as the major tourist attraction by organizing tournament and making the experience of Golf better in Kashmir.

Against the Odds – The spiritual journey of Amarnath Yatra

2The Amarnath Yatra which started on 1st of July is helping to provide a spiritual solace to the hearts and minds of lakhs of pilgrims who are currently making the journey. Despite terror threat, heavy rain and worrying sentiments of the incident which happened in Kedarnath there is no reduction in the zeal and passion of the lakhs of pilgrims. The shrine is about 140km from Srinagar, and the journey to the shrine on foot begins from Chandanwari 16km from Pahalgam. The long and tedious journey to an altitude of 3,888 m is taxing on the body and is why the pilgrims must be physically and mentally fit to cope with the cold weather. The Yatra takes around three to four days and passes through steep paths across valleys, glaciers and arduous trekking routes.

The journey is being made as comfortable as possible by the State government and various non-profit organizations. The Non-profit organisations have set up food supplies providing langar free of cost to lakhs of pilgrams making their way while also arranging resting tents called pandals which are also available for free to the pilgrims. The state government has deputised thousands of central police and state police personnel, which have been deployed to provide security to pilgrims from potential terror threats. The government is also providing provisions of ponies, supply of power, telecommunication facilities, firewood and setting up of fair price shops. All these facilities provide a comfortable and spiritually fulfilling journey to the pilgrims, where their physical needs are met and they can concentrate only on their spiritual needs.

There is also a multitude of Various Yoga and meditation ashrams providing a person with opportunities to rest his mind and connect to oneself while sitting in the cradle of the Towering and Majestic Himalayan range. Due to the increasing calmness in the valley and increase in Kashmir tourism, more people are able to discover their inner peace and spirituality in the lap of the Himalayas.
